Larry Dale Blackburn, 67, left this world on April 4, 2012, to be with our Lord at his new address. He passed away at his home in Shawnee; with his wife Betty at his side. Larry was born November 28, 1944 in Cushing, OK to Albert and Margaret Blackburn. He attended Diamond Point Elementary school and Nowata High School.
In May of 1980 Larry decided to make Shawnee his residence and opened his business, Larry’s Transmission Service. Larry’s hobbies in his youth consisted of fishing, hunting and auto racing and then later in life it was making money. He enjoyed fast cars and even built a few and sponsored several and built transmissions for many. He considered his greatest achievement to be the successful business he grew and operated until his retirement in 2006.
He enjoyed traveling and sight seeing, mostly across the Northwestern United States. Larry and his wife Betty, the love of his life, spent 2 ½ years taking in the sights and enjoying life across the United States.
Larry attended church at Freedom Assembly of God of Shawnee. One of his proudest moments was when he became saved and baptized.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and sister Mary Barnes and her husband Leroy, both of Cushing, OK.
Larry his survived by his wife Betty; children Warren Blackburn, Durenda McVey and her husband Mark, and Christy Blackburn all of Muskogee, OK; as well as Robert Stearns (U.S. Navy Special Forces in San Diego, CA) and his wife Myra. He has a brother Fred Blackburn and his wife Marcella in Cushing, OK. Larry was also blessed with seven grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation for Larry will be Friday April 6th, 2012 from 2:00PM - 8:00 PM with family present starting at 6pm to greet at Resthaven Funeral Home. A luncheon for family and friends will be provided by Freedom Assembly of God on Saturday April 7th, 2012 from 1:00 PM until 2:30 PM at the Resthaven Family Event Center adjacent to the Funeral Home. Services will be in the Resthaven Chapel at 3:00 PM on Saturday; followed by a final prayer at the mausoleum immediately after the service.
