Geraldine Faye “Gerry” McGehee passed away on her birthday, April 10, 2016 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was born April 10, 1921 in Yale, Oklahoma to George W. and Lorain M. McCormick. Gerry grew up with three brothers, Barkley or “B.W.”, Laverne, and her fraternal twin Eugene or “Gene.” She attended Seminole High School and met her future husband, Gerald “Pete” McGehee at the First Christian Church. Pete and Gerry married September 20, 1942. While Pete served in the Army during World War II, Gerry cared for their son, while living with her mom and dad. Pete and Gerry moved to Shawnee in 1947 where they raised their three sons. Gerry and her family were long time members of the First Christian Church in Shawnee. After Pete retired in 1978, Pete and Gerry moved to Mesa, Arizona. They enjoyed much of their retirement years there, playing golf and entertaining family and a host of new friends. Southwest Art was a special interest of Gerry’s and she would travel to many galleries and shops in search of a prize. They returned full time to Oklahoma in 2005, settling in Tulsa. She enjoyed entertaining and cooking for her family. She was a great cook, and her children and grandchildren greatly benefited. She enjoyed shopping, always looking for that special bargain which she usually found. Gerry was an avid card player, participating in bridge clubs throughout her life. She taught her grandchildren how to play “Books” and enjoyed playing with them. She also loved crosswords, working them with her husband. Family was very important to Gerry. Thanksgiving and Christmas were times of closeness and special holiday treats. She loved family gatherings, and the four family reunions, which coincided with Pete and Gerry’s 50th, 55th, 60th, and 65th wedding anniversaries, were her delight. Gerry was very generous and especially loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She displayed many pictures of her family throughout her apartment.
Gerry is preceded in death by her parents, George W. and Lorain M., her husband, Pete, as well as her brothers, Barkley, Laverne, and Gene. She is survived by her three sons: Michael David McGehee and wife Margaret Ellen, Martin Wayne McGehee and wife Lisa Gail, and George Thomas McGehee and wife Deborah Ann; nine grandchildren: Michael David McGehee Jr., Maggie McGehee Henry and husband Robert, Patrick Thompson McGehee, Meghan McGehee Roe and husband Brian, Amy McGehee Bloodworth and husband Gabriel, Rachel McGehee McCormick and husband Joshua, Matthew Thomas McGehee, Peter James McGehee and wife Elisabeth, and Hannah Jeanne McGehee; and eight great-grandchildren: Miles Beggs Henry, Bennett Martin Roe, Nathan Joseph McCormick, Daniel Elijah McCormick, Josiah David McCormick, Noah Elisha McGehee, Claire Julia McGehee, and James Thomas McGehee.
