Newell "Doc" Cleon Near

Mr. Near was born in Mayville, New York on December 30, 1928 and was the son of the late Malcolm and Mattie Bartin Near. He was an Army Air Force Veteran serving during World War II during which time he was attached to the 5th Air Force. He worked at Klings Furniture Factory as Stationary Engineer also at American Locomotive, Kraft Foods, Red Wing Food Products and retired from Better Baked Foods as a maintenance supervisor. He was a Presbyterian where he served as a Deacon and Elder. He served on the Board of Tax Review in Westfield and was also a member of the Westfield Moose Lodge. He was a life member of the V.F.W. He was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Dorothy J. Near; two children, David Near of Carolina Shores, NC and Debra Tresohlavy of Carolina Shores; five grandchildren, Dennis Near, Dan Near, April Jones, John Tresohlavy and Don Tresohlavy and seven great grandchildren.

Private family services will be held at a later date in Westfield, New York.
