Michael was born September 8, 1956, son of Henry Hampton Hewett and the late Shirley Robinson Hewett. He was a veteran of the United States Army where he served in Germany as a German interpreter. He was fluent in the German language and taught several family members. After the military, he held many jobs such as a shrimp boat deckhand, bus mechanic, and a very skilled carpenter for many years. He was a member of Sharon United Methodist Church and enjoyed listening to music. Spending time with family made him happy as well as baking with his great grandchildren.
Survivors include his father, Henry Hampton Hewett of Supply; daughter Carrie Hardee and husband Jarvis of Conway; honorary daughter, Tina Self of Bolivia; brother, Shawn Keith Hewett of Ohio; sisters, Jane Todd of Supply and Sue Isgett of Florida; two grandchildren, Jamie Williamson and Katelin Hardee Singleton; and two great grandchildren, Jesse Anne Williamson and Art Hampton Singleton; wife Peggy Smith; and special aunt Frieda Phillips.
Funeral services will be Thursday, August 11, 2022 at eleven o’clock in the morning at Sharon United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Hewett Family Cemetery off Old Shallotte Road.
The family will receive friends following the service at the home.
