Marvin was born May 31, 1954 in New Hanover County, son of the late Marvin Jinks Long, Sr. and Delta Hewett Long. He was a very talented artist who loved gardening, crafting, and building beautiful background scenery for church programs and Vacation Bible School. He was also an outstanding cook who would challenge any good Southerner to beat the taste of his collards or cabbage.
Marvin adored his church family, singing with their choir, as well as being a member of the North Myrtle Beach All-City Choir. You never had to doubt his love for you because he gave the BEST hugs to ANYONE who needed it. His presence at FBCS was such a tremendous force. He kept all 23,000 chairs in a straight line, never failing to use his self-made PVC measuring stick and he always knew where to find anything you may need. Marvin was the gatekeeper/protector of all things "church." You basically had to go through him for approval of everything. Though he may not be with us anymore, his love remains forever etched on our hearts. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Angie Long in 2017, brother, Phillip Harris Long and sister, Lora Ramona Horne.
Survivors include his children, Christopher Michael Long of Supply and Stephanie Nicole Long and fiance' Mark Lopez of Shallotte; brother, Glenn Long and wife Kay of Texas; sisters, Sandra Dee Long Hall and husband Tony of Supply and Daisy Long Ivey and husband Tim of Shallotte; six grandchildren, Hannah Elizabeth Long, Daniel Lee Moscarelli, Alexis Cupernall, Alicia Cupernall, Alex Cupernall, Jr. and Nate Cupernall; two sisters-in-law, Cynthia Phelps Long of Supply and Cathy Williamson of Shallotte; special daughter -in-law, Lisa Granieri; special canine companion, Jake Long; and several nieces and nephews.
