Mrs. Reed was born October 21, 1933 in Rupert, West Virginia, daughter of the late Lacy Burns and Marjorie Thompson Burns. She was a well loved woman who was loud, loving, and full of spunk. She was very generous and would put anyone before herself. Mrs. Reed was the greatest cook ever, and was well-known for her fried chicken and sausage gravy. Her family nicknamed her The Crockpot Queen and Ms. Buttersworth because she loved to use tons of butter in her dishes. Her other hobbies included traveling and gambling. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sons, Butch Griffith, Tommy Griffith, and Mike Reed and one sister, Janet Burns Arrighi.
Survivors include her children, Joe Griffith of Varnamtown, Fred Reed of Savannah, Georgia, Roy Lee Griffith of Lancaster, Ohio, and Nikki Jacobs of Shallotte whom she raised as her daughter; eleven grandchildren; many great grandchildren; and several great great grandchildren.
