Steadfast and loyal, he was a beloved husband to Sheliah Pruett of Carolina Shores, NC where they made their home the last 5 years. He is also survived by his children, James Pruett II, and his wife Sasha of Raleigh, NC, and daughter Carrie Terrell, and her husband Jesse of Supply, NC all of whom feel the weight of his absence. James was a doting grandfather to his two biological grandsons, Josiah and Noah Terrell, and two bonus grandchildren, Kalina and Cal Terrell, all of Supply, NC.
James was proudly involved in his family farm for many years, and he will also be dearly missed by his surviving siblings, Doris Pruett and Teresa Pruett both of Pounding Mill, Va, Richard Pruett of Oak Hill, Va, and William “Bill” Pruett of Ackworth, Ga. He is also survived by his dear friend and partner in crime, Chesley “Tony” Asbury of Cedar Bluff, Va, and many other close friends and extended family members.
He was respected and admired by all who had the privilege of knowing him both in his work life, at Waste Industries, and his favorite past time of hunting. He was a United States Army veteran, having served after high school as a Military Policeman in Korea and received his Associates degree after returning home.
He was preceded in death by both of his parents, Charles Peery Pruett and Eura Mae Crouse Pruett of Pounding Mill, Va and siblings Charles Peery Pruett Jr., Patricia Puckett of Pounding Mill, Va, Bonita Tosh of Bluefield, WVa, and Monroe Pruett of Richlands, Va.
Funeral services will be held at Singleton Funeral Home on November 11, 2023 at 12 pm with a viewing starting an hour earlier at 11 am. Burial will follow on his family farm in Ringstaff Cemetery.
