

She was the daughter of the late Jessie Dallas McKeithan and Letha Phelps McKeithan. She was predeceased in death by her parents, her husband, J.D. Long, three sisters, Laura Johnson, Janice Evans and Dianne Mabry, a brother, Allen McKeithan and a nephew, Brent Evans Sr.
Barbara was a homemaker, farmer’s wife, caregiver and a community babysitter. She loved children and kept many in her home over the years. Barbara also loved spending time with her family and friends whether it was at reunions, going out to eat, taking a trip or just sitting around at home talking. Barbara had many talents that included quilting, crafts and cooking. To her family she was the Champion Biscuit Maker and was famous for her Pecan Pies and Summertime Lemonade in many parts of our community. Barbara was a special person who loved people, and she was loved by many. She was an active member of Friendship Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday School Teacher, helped with Vacation Bible School, was a kitchen helper and supported the various programs of the church.
Barbara is survived by her sons, Jeff Long and his wife Donna, and Jerry Long and his wife Melissa. She is survived by five grandchildren, Renee Cook and her husband Scott, Caleb Long and his wife Stephanie, John Long, Breanna Long and Jacob Harden, and five great-grandchildren, Rebekah Harden, Wayne Buchanan, Sheyanne Buchanan, Wyatt Long and a great-granddaughter to arrive in July 2025. Barbara is also survived by a brother-in-law Rifton Evans, four nieces Audrey Lynch, Shelby Spencer, Rhonda Evans Benton and Joyce Stocks, and one nephew Sam Johnson.
Funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. Mark Register on Monday, April 21, 2025, at 11 am at Friendship Baptist Church, 2546 Ash-Little River Road NW, Ash, NC with visitation one hour prior. Burial will follow the service at Ward’s Cemetery, Daniel Butler Road NW, Longwood NC.
