He is preceded in death by his mother Marie E. Mecklem (Harry) and sister, Mary Jayne O’Reilly (William) . He is survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins and great nieces and nephews.
He was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pa but resided in Lehigh Acres and St. Petersburg, FLA over the last three decades. He attended St. Joseph’s Prep school, S. Joseph’s University and was a veteran. He worked for the steamship industry as a custom broker in young adulthood. He later spent an extended career working for Publix Supermarkets.
Tom was a lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus, and a devoted catholic, who attended yearly Malvern retreats when residing in Pennsylvania. He was also a member of the Marple Young Republican Party. He enjoyed bowling, gardening, reading and playing the organ. He was a dedicated and enthusiastic Phillies fan who was once given a standing ovation at a St. Petersburg restaurant as the oldest fan watching the game. He was extremely devoted to his mother who lived with him most of his life and traveled to Croatia with his her to visit the village of his maternal grandparents. He spent the last several years as a resident of Carrington Place in St. Petersburg, FLA., where he attended many activities and events, served on social committees and formed many friendships. A memorial service in his memory was held at Carrington on November 21, 2016. He will surely be missed by his co-residents and the staff there, as well as his extended family up in Pennsylvania and Florida.
