Born in East McKeesport, PA, Arlene and her family moved to Hollywood, FL in 1962 where she attended Nativity Catholic School and Madonna High School. She earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Food and Resource Economics from the University of Florida, and remained a loyal Gator fan throughout her lifetime.
Arlene is best known for her humanity and love for her family, animals of all kinds, and her husband of 41 years, Richard Corbin. Over the years, Arlene and Rich fostered many children and adopted seven who formed a loving, supportive family that included a menagerie of dogs, cats, birds, and other species.
After several years working as a consultant, Arlene became a lifelong educator. One of the highlights of her career was founding the Pinellas Refugee Education Program (PREP) through Pinellas Technical College where she later worked as an administrator for many years. Arlene was instrumental in starting two PREP campuses, which helped refugees and victims of trafficking from all over the world assimilate and find work in the United States.
She later became the Director for the PTEC South Campus in St. Petersburg and later as Director of the PTEC North Campus in Clearwater campus where she eventually retired.
Arlene is survived by her mother Florence Kennedy and brother Tom Kennedy; her husband Rich Corbin and her children Mark Corbin, Linda Corbin, Jay Corbin, Nathan Corbin, Lori Corbin, James Corbin and Cody Corbin; four grandchildren Nora Gilmore, Jack Gilmore, Sophie Corbin and Jace Snyder; and six dogs who miss her greatly.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to SPCA of Largo, Humane Society, and Planned Parenthood.
