Lieutenant Colonel James Lee Jarrett Ret. , a retired US Air Force pilot, father and grandfather, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at the Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas. He was 86 years old.
James was born to James McKinney & Mathie Maude (Chairs) Jarrett in Memphis Tennessee on March 30, 1928. He joined the US Air Force in 1948 He earned a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Tennessee in 1966. James married Vessie Evans October 27, 1950 in Memphis, Tennessee. She preceded him in death on April 29, 2005. James was a devoted father and grandfather, a member of The Seguin Silver Center, the First United Methodist Church in Seguin and the H.U. Wood American Legion Post 245. He was a proud Vietnam veteran; having served in the US Air Force as a pilot of C130s, retiring after 27 years of service to our county.
James leaves behind his sons; James Lee Jarrett Jr. of Kyle, Texas; David Wallace Jarrett of College Station, Texas and Steven Mark Jarrett and his Wife Cynthia of Valrico, Florida. He also leaves behind his grandchildren Nicole Alvarado and her husband David of Saint Louis, Missouri, Ashley Jarrett of Stillwater, Oklahoma; Andrew Jarrett of Austin , Texas and Travis Jarrett and his wife Celeste of China Springs, Texas. James was preceded in death by his son Michael Edward Jarrett on August 29, 2013.
A memorial service for James will be held at the First United Methodist Church 710 N Austin St, Seguin, Texas (830) 379-4112 on Friday, July 18, 2014 at 1:00 PM followed by interment with military honors next to his loving wife Vessie at Fort Sam Houston National cemetery1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd, San Antonio, Texas (210) 820-3891 at 3:00 PM
