Elizabeth was born on February 12th, 1939, in Jersey City, NJ, to Mary and William Thomas Hagan. Elizabeth attended St. Aloysius in Jersey City, and after high school worked at Onyx.
She met her beloved husband Michael F. Whalen Sr., at the Jersey Shore and wed in 1962. They welcomed their son, Michael Whalen, Jr. in 1965 and were lifelong Secaucus residents.
Elizabeth was a devoted Catholic whose life centered around her family. She excelled at motherhood and was the foundation of her family. She hosted many family events and never missed a special date to celebrate with her family. During the summer months, Elizabeth enjoyed living in the Catskill Mountains surrounded by her immediate and extended family creating wonderful lifelong memories. She was also a curator of fine items from QVC and was a lifelong Yankee and Knicks fan.
Elizabeth was predeceased by her beloved husband Michael F. Whalen Sr., her loving mother Mary and stepfather Patrick Fitzsimmons, and her dear siblings William Hagan, Dolores Hagan, and Eileen Jennings. She is survived by her caring son Michael F. Whalen Jr., and her cherished grandchildren Victoria Whalen and Michael F. Whalen III. She also leaves behind many adored nieces and nephews. Elizabeth will be eternally missed.
Visitation for Elizabeth will be held Friday, October 21 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Mack Memorial Home, 1245 Paterson Plank Road, Secaucus, NJ 07094. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, October 22 at 9:30 AM at Immaculate Conception Church, 1245 Paterson Plank Rd., Secaucus, NJ. Burial to follow at East Ridgelawn Cemetery, Clifton, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Elizabeth’s name to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital www.stjude.org.
