Nancy Lee Thomas Noel was born in Seattle to Llewellyn Bond (Ted) and Kathryn MacVicar Thomas. She was the eldest of three children and enjoyed a memorable childhood on 61st and Roosevelt with her younger sister, Lynn Thomas House and her brother, John MacVicar Thomas.
Nancy graduated from Roosevelt High School and became a Dental Assistant to Dr. Johnny N. Johnson. During this time she met and married, F. William (Bill) Noel. Nancy and Bill had two sons, John William and Steven Bond Noel. Nancy was very active with her sons and spent many weekends skiing and attending sporting events. Nancy opened her home and her heart to all the young people and pets that her boys brought home.
After separating from her husband, Nancy became a cook at Nathan Hale High School where she was quite famous for her delicious cinnamon rolls. She really had a gift for sewing and cooking. Many of us still use our handmade Christmas stockings to this day. She generously made many decorations that will always hold a special place in our hearts. It was no small task to make doll clothes for Frederick and Nelson’s Department Store. She loved to bowl with her team and had a special affection for her bowling “daughters”, Shelby and Linda. Nancy worked at Harborview Hospital for many years and retired from Ryther Child Center at the age of 77.
Just a few houses away from where Nancy grew up lived a couple named George and Helen Schoen. They had three children, Ray, Janice and Fred. A friendship was formed between the two families that lasted a lifetime. When the Schoen’s moved out to Lake Washington, Nancy would spend many hours swimming, boating, riding and having the time of her life. They were a second family to Nancy and she spoke of them often with love and affection.
We could always count on Nancy to be there for us. That cannot be said of everyone and is a tribute to the strong lady that she was. Nancy was always happiest, celebrating life with her family and friends. We will cherish the memories of family vacations, birthdays and Holidays.
