June was born in Petersburg, Alaska to Harushi and Seki Oyama and lived in Petersburg until the outbreak of WWII.
During WWII, June and her mother and sister were temporarily relocated to the Puyallup Fair Grounds and eventually to the internment camp, Minidoka, in Idaho.
June's father was incarcerated in a different internment camp and they would not see him again for 2 years before he was able to join them at Minidoka.
While at Minidoka, June met the love of her life, Mits Takahashi, whom she married in 1946.
June worked for 25 years as a school secretary for the Seattle Public Schools. After retiring from the school district, she and her niece purchased and operated a Mailbox Etc. franchise for many years.
June is predeceased by her husband, Mits Takahashi and is survived by her children, Steven (Kathi), Vicki, Marsha (Ken Edwards) and Lori (John Michel); grandchildren, Rian (Neita) and Corrie (Peter Yukawa); great-grandchildren, Amalia, Diego and Mateo Takahashi and Lucas Yukawa; sisters -in-law, Yoshi Kanemori, Pauline Asaba and many nieces and nephews.
Private Services will be held. Remembrances may be made to the Japanese Presbyterian Church, 1801 24th Ave S. Seattle WA. 98144.
