She was born to Elma (née Pierson) Mounger and Lowery Mounger, December 1, 1935 in Seattle, Washington. Judi had a happy childhood with her parents and three siblings. They lived on Capitol Hill then moved to Magnolia where she attended Queen Anne High School and subsequently met her future husband Conrad (Connie) Jacobsen. It was a sweet romance full of respect, kindness, travel and almond croissants that lasted until his passing in 2011. Judi earned her teaching certificate at the University of Washington where she was a member of Gamma Phi Beta sorority.
Judi and Connie were married in the spring of 1957. After college they started their family and moved to Pasadena where she taught school while Connie pursued his M.Div. at Fuller. Their family continued to grow. Connie took a position with Young Life in Hinsdale, Illinois where the last two of their four children were born.
In 1967, the young family returned to the Laurelhurst neighborhood in Seattle. These years were marked by summers in a tiny (but charming) cabin on Bainbridge Island and one rather epic camping trip to Europe. Judi taught school, cared for her busy brood, ministered to her community while simultaneously pursuing her artwork before starting a greeting card and gift business which ultimately morphed from Lucy & Me to Me Two to Madison Park Greetings. In 1995, she received a Small Business Person of the year award through the Small Business Administration which included a reception to meet the US President. Judi provided a safe and supportive working environment for women, recent immigrants and the deaf community. After stepping away from the business, she and Connie took many bucket list trips including a special one to the Holy Land. She, also, continued her involvement with the Salvation Army, Professional Women’s Fellowship, and the board of the Seattle Pacific University business school. In retirement she enjoyed the various antics of her 15 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren! She loved to have them at their cozy cabin on Lake Roesiger where swimming, games, music, dogs, Italian sodas and bug bites were part of the general joyful environment.
Judi will be remembered for her faith in Jesus Christ, her generosity, her love for her family, her business acumen, her life long friendships, choosing just the right gift, her love of color especially red, her artistic sense, her toasted cheese sandwiches, her frugality (nary a napkin wasted), Kleenex in her sleeve and always applying the latest coral lipstick before company arrived.
She was preceded in death by Connie, her husband, of 53 years and her brother Larry Mounger. She is survived by her children Laurie (Don) Swanson, Mark (Debbie) Jacobsen, Brian (Holly) Jacobsen, Eric (Liz) Jacobsen, siblings Melissa (Don) Nielsen, Glenn (Mary Lynn) Mounger, and sisters-in-law Judie Mounger and Lois Jacobsen, grandchildren Kendall, Blake, Ashlyn, Jacob, Lael, Alex, Conrad, Hannah, Zach, Erika, Josh, Kate, Peter, Emma & Abe, as well as her 11 great grandchildren, a bunch of wonderful nieces and nephews, and beloved friends. We are profoundly grateful to Judi’s loyal caregivers who treated her like family these many years.
Judi, you are our sunshine, we miss you and we will see you on the other side.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, Feb. 25, 2:00pm at Univ. Presb. Church.
