It is with great sadness, Joseph L. Bennett (Joe) age 92, passed away of natural causes on March 15, 2023 at his beloved home overlooking Lake Ballinger. Joe was born in New Albany, Indiana on Dec. 31, 1930, the Bennett family then moved to Seattle in 1944 and resided in the Woodland Park Church of God Parsonage, Joe attended and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1949. Joe enlisted with the US Naval Reserve on 06/11/1949 at Sand Point Naval Base Seattle, WA., as a AN (Airman). Then Active Duty with the US Navy on 07/20/1950 where he was deployed from San Diego Naval Base onto the USS Sicily Aircraft Carrier during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged on 05/30/1952. Joe married his loving wife C. Jean Bennett on April 26, 1952, they spent 70 wonderful years together. After moving back to Seattle, Joe went to work for the Seattle Fire Department on 01/04/54 to 12/31/93 which was a 40-year public service proud and dutiful career as a firefighter. Joe's hobby and lifelong passion of flying , was unsurpassed as he was a very accomplished Pilot and Flight Instructor for various Commercial Jets, Lear jets, Multi engine, Single engine and Float planes, and all the adventures with his love of flying, in fact he was still flying the very week he had passed away. Joe was a member of the Nile Temple Shriners, Sons of Norway, APOA member and various flying clubs. Joe was preceded in death by his wife C. Jean Bennett, parents Rev. Luke & Mrs. Lula Bennett, sister Betty L. (Bennett) Snow. Joe is survived by his children daughter Terese (Teri) Williams (husband Tom), and son Jeffery Bennett, 4 granddaughters and 10 great grandchildren, sister Linda R. Griffin (Kieth), brother David L. Bennett and many nieces and nephews. Joe was a very loving, caring and vibrant personality to all family, friends, students and co- workers he will be missed dearly.
Family Graveside Service will be held at Evergreen Washelli Cemetary Seattle, WA., May 8, 2023 @ 2pm in the Norwegian Lutheran Section.
Celebration of Life to follow at the Nile Shriner Center and Golf Course in Mountlake Terrace, WA., in the facility ballroom @ 3:30pm.
