After a lifetime of dedication to his medical practice and his family, John Hicks died peacefully on May 16 at the age of 98. John’s life of service began when he joined the Army at age 19 during World War II. After the war ended, he completed his medical studies at the University of Washington and, following an internship and residency in New York and Philadelphia, he returned to Seattle where he continued his practice as an ophthalmologist for nearly 50 years. He delighted in learning about new discoveries in science, particularly astronomy, which first captured his imagination when he watched the stars as a boy in Ellensburg. John is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Josie, and is survived by his children, John Hicks, Jr., Lisa Bloomer (Lance), and Ellen Walkley (Brian Myers). He leaves grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews and generations of grateful patients in his wake. In remembrance, please send donations to the Horizon House Partners in Caring Endowment.
