Vice Admiral James Paul Stewart, age 94, passed away January 9, 2019, in Kirkland, WA. He was born July 1, 1924 in Covington, KY. The Stewarts moved to this area in 1982, when VAdm Stewart retired from the United States Coast Guard, and since have been residents of Mill Creek.
He served 36 years in the United States Coast Guard, including tours of duty in the Great Lakes region, New England, Washington D.C., Alaska, San Francisco, Hawaii and Japan. He loved electronics from an early age, and his assignments included posts in electronics engineering and research and development. In 1954, he was awarded a Master of Science Degree in Electronics Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He spent his retirement enjoying boating, tennis and golf with his wife. The couple celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in 2018.
He is survived by his wife Norma Kathryn Stewart (Smith), and by his daughter, Mary Kathryn Stewart.
