Gary Dean Miller

Gary Dean Miller, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and great uncle, passed away peacefully in his sleep on May 21, 2013. Gary was an extremely loving, steadfast, hard-working, fun-loving leader in his family and he will be deeply missed. Born Jan 19, 1951 to William (Bill) and Arlene Miller in Seattle, Gary's family moved to Federal Way in 1958. Gary graduated from Federal Way High School in 1969 and joined the U.S. Navy that summer. He served his four years on aircraft carriers during the Vietnam War. In 1996 Gary met and courted the love of his life, Lois, and they married in 1998. They recently celebrated their 15th anniversary. They enjoyed boating, traveling, movies and just being together. Lois, her daughter Tammy, her husband Brent and eventually their children Riley, Jordan and Braiden became the loving family Gary treasured above all else. Gary worked for Mutual Materials and became a highly critical employee, as one of very few people in the country qualified to be a brick kiln operator. Gary's employer of 38 years recently closed their brick manufacturing plant. Because Gary was so experienced and trusted, he was the last remaining employee on-site for many months, responsible for all on-site operations until their shut-down. Gary enjoyed researching genealogy with his mother. He was an avid golfer and bowler with his father and his uncle, Dean. Bill, Dean and Gary spent many years building homes, furniture and good memories for everyone in the Miller family. More recently, Gary enjoyed woodworking, gardening and spending time with his extended beloved family. During 2012 Gary became very active with the VFW, which he considered to be a great honor. Gary was preceded in death by his father, Bill, his mother, Arlene, and his uncle, Dean. He is survived by his wife Lois, his stepdaughter Tammy Covington and her husband Brent, his sister Connie Boyle, his sister Robyn Bennett and her husband Jack, his grandsons Riley, Jordan and Braiden, three nieces, one nephew and five grand nieces and nephews.
