Elizabeth Joan Sawyer Stout, 98, died at the home of her daughter and son-in-law in Shoreline, WA on October 12, 2024. She finally achieved her goal of reaching room temperature.
Betty took her role as a comforting mother seriously. It was her life’s work and she excelled in every way.
Left to cherish her memory are her children Jim (Kathy), Martha (Mike), and Mark (Margaret) and her grandchildren Alex Laslavic (Kenna Lee), Nick Laslavic, David Radcliffe-Stout (Laurel) and great granddaughter Hailey Simpson. Her husband Byrl died in 2012.
She was close to many many nieces and nephews.
Byrl and Betty were married for 64 years, 32 in retirement in Zephyrhills, FL. Betty was a faithful friend and dedicated volunteer with hospice, the public school and her church’s office and resale shop. She served as treasurer of the Garden Club for many years. She and Byrl retired to Florida and loved to entertain. They were nearly a Florida attraction for friends and family.
Betty did the Sunday NYT crossword in ink! She was very adept with technology and in recent years played lots of games on her iPad. An avid reader, when her sight failed she learned to download audio books.
Daughter of Norman Delmar Sawyer and Laura Austin Sawer, her three brothers Martin, Arthur and Raymond predeceased her. She grew up in Port Allegany, PA, a place that was always home in her heart. For that reason, memorials may be made to Port Allegany Methodist Church, 307 N. Main St. Port Allegany, PA 16743 or a charity of your choice. Many thanks for the excellent care she received from her hospice team
Her memorial service will be at First Lutheran Church of Richmond Beach on Saturday, October 26 at 10:00 am. The service can be viewed on the First Lutheran of Richmond Beach YouTube channel. https://youtube.com/@flrb?si=__JeVFqp5m_ZWBPe
