1937 – 2021
Elias Barroga Domingo, Jr., 83, passed away November 8, 2021. Born December 27, 1937, in Garit, Echauge, Isabela, Philippines to Elias Ventura Domingo Sr. and Emilia (Marta) Domingo, he was the eldest of eight children. He was always interested in learning new things and sharing that learning with others, which was a trait that would continue throughout his life. At age 13, he entered Legarda Memorial High School and then attended National University of the Philippines where he studied Civil and Geodetic Engineering. During that time, he met his soon to be wife, Saniata, and the two were married in 1959.
The call for a new chapter for his family captivated him and so in 1970, he and his wife and infant son Joel, emigrated to America. He soon landed a job as a survey aide - a job that would eventually lead him to a career in surveying and cartography with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). He would be mainly embedded in field research across the oceans of the world. It was at NOAA where he would spend the rest of his career until his retirement in 2004.
Though he came to America to begin life anew for his immediate family, he never forgot about his extended family in the Philippines, so over the course of four decades, he also dedicated his life to working hard and saving to sponsor numerous family members including his parents, all his brothers and sisters and their families, along with several others, all with their dream to move to America.
His love for learning was always apparent as he would often share stories of his immigrant experience in moving to a new country along with stories of travels with his wife to several places including several states in the United States, Europe, the Middle East, Asia, the Caribbean, Australia, and New Zealand.
He is preceded in death by his son, Angel Lorenzo Domingo, and grandson Isaac Christian Domingo. He is survived by his wife Saniata and her daughter Febe Lorenzo Legaspi, his son Joel (wife Deborah), his grandchildren Izabella and Rafael, his brothers Ruben (wife, Fely), Ernesto (wife, Violeta), Fred (wife, Judith), Rey (wife, Estrella), Jany (wife, Alana), sisters Helen (husband, Geronimo) Buccat, and Nenita (husband, Billy) Bagaoisan, and all their respective families, along with numerous relatives.
His legacy of learning, giving, and sharing his life and resources for the sake of others will never be forgotten.
Funeral service and subsequent interment will be Sunday, November 28, 2021, beginning at 10:00AM, at Evergreen Washelli Funeral Home and Cemetery, 11111 Aurora Avenue N, Seattle.
