Doris Marie (Prinslow) Wiese died peacefully at the age of 83 on June 8, 2015. She was born the tenth child of twelve on April 13th in Centerville, South Dakota to Charles and Alice Prinslow. Her family moved to Woodburn, Oregon, where she met and married Ted Wiese in 1954. They moved to Seattle in 1962 where they spent the rest of their lives together raising their eight children. She is preceded in death by her husband, Deacon Ted Wiese, 9 siblings, and son, Greg. She is survived by her brother Robert (Anneliese), sister Marylou Rigdon (Bob), children Constance Sanders (Rich), Lawrence, Julie Hanson (Bruce), Lisa Hansen (Karl), Thomas (Wendy), Margaret Haack (Jeff), and Paul. She also leaves 10 grandchildren and one great grandson, many nieces and nephews, and countless beloved friends, old and new. She loved spending time with her family, shopping, Wii bowling, celebrating birthdays and holidays and singing alto in her church choir.
We, her children, fondly remember her Sunday roast-and-potato dinners, late summer night Jeopardy games, and piling into the old Pontiac to go swimming at Hulsman's on Lake Burien while Dad worked "Swing". She introduced us to our love of music and movie trivia. We recall her Jack LaLanne living room workouts, Herb Alpert albums and seemingly endless polka and yodeling records. Mom could Square Dance, German Dance, taught herself guitar, and played trumpet in her high school band (and beyond!). And who can forget Mom and Mrs. Banks playing guitar in our classrooms at Holy Family School, aka The Music Program. We loved our tuna fish sandwiches, pop and chips in our special field trip lunches, and her ability to split a Snickers bar 8 ways. Later in life, she made sure no grandchild left her house without a treat bag to-go (and if you never sampled her potato salad, well, you really missed out!).
Mom made wonderful, long-lasting friendships: Delores and Harriett, Marilou, Linda, Delores, Joyce, Marilyn, Steve - and so many others. Each one made her laugh and had a special place in her heart. Fr. Paul Byrne, Rev. John Jennings and Rev. Richard Gallagher were longtime family friends; Reverends Gallagher and Jennings were a great comfort to her after Dad and Greg passed.
Mom and Dad were happily married nearly 60 years, and through the happy times and struggles, created a legacy of faith, generosity, compassion and humor - all with coffee at the ready and the backdoor always open. They will now love and laugh together for eternity, and we thank them for giving us such a blessed life.
A Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Family Parish Seattle on Monday, June 15th at 10:00 a.m. Remembrances may be made to the Seattle Holy Family Parish St. Vincent DePaul Society.
