Cheryl Dianne Smith was born to the parents Garland G. Smith SR and Geneva Maxine Cates Smith-Laws on December 27, 1954, in Seattle Washington.
Cheryl was a graduate of Nathan Hale High School class of 1973, and later attended Seattle Central Community College where she received an Associate of Arts Degree. Cheryl was a loyal and dependable babysitter for multiple families throughout the Seattle area before beginning work for JC Penny’s, CB Richard Ellis, Quest Communications, and the Seattle School District.
Earlier in life Cheryl was a member of Progressive Missionary Baptist Church where she served as a member of the young adult choir. She later became a member of Peoples Institutional Baptist Church and served as the Vice President of the Woman’s Ministry, and sang with various choirs.
She dedicated a lot of time putting together programs, speeches, and seeking out guest speakers for multiple Women’s Ministry events.
Cheryl loved to read, watch sports, old westerns, and catch a play or musical when she was able. She also enjoyed traveling, and cruising became a favorite for her.
Cheryl was affectionately known as Cookie which was a nickname given to her by her mother, Apple Dumpling & Sherry pie was from her grandmother, and Shirley given to her from Patrick.
She is preceded in death by her parents Garland G Smith SR, Geneva Maxine Cates Smith Laws, Brothers Garland G Smith JR and Gilford W Smith, as well as Godfrey M. Laws (Mother’s husband).
She leaves to cherish her memory, Sister Kathy M Smith Seattle, WA. Brother William A Smith (Patrick) Phoenix, AZ. Nephew Alexander Gaffney Seattle, WA. God sister Sonia M Edmondson Seattle, WA. Along with a host of loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family of the late Cheryl Dianne Smith gratefully acknowledges and deeply appreciates the many acts of kindness, concern and support extended to us during such a difficult time. Your prayers and calls held us up and brought much comfort. May God bless you and keep you in his care.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, January 4, 2023 at 12:00PM in the Evergreen Washelli Funeral Home Chapel 11111 Aurora Ave N. Seattle 98133 with committal following, Evergreen Memorial Park.
