Bun Cheang Taing was born in Prey Veng, Cambodia. He was a successful entrepreneur, businessman, and a survivor of the Khmer Rouge regime. He came to the United States on September 15, 1980 and earned his citizenship on May 21, 1989. He could still recite the original 13 colonies by heart! He enjoyed playing the Mandolin as a self-taught musician. He was skilled in Chinese arithmetic, was proficient with the abacus, and could accurately predict the profit of rice without needing measurement tools.
Bun Cheang Taing passed away peacefully in his sleep at the age of 98 on June 3, 2021 at Providence Regional Medical Center in Everett, Washington. He was adored and respected by his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, nieces, and all those who came to know him. His will to provide, to adapt, to live, to learn, and to create good in the world were always part of his daily practice. His display of love through countless actions and self-sacrifice enriched many lives. He endured tremendous hardships, yet still found happiness while maintaining the values of dignity, honesty, and hard work. He exemplified all the qualities of what a great human-being should be. He was the glue that held his family together, the foundation that kept them steady. He was more than any of them could have hoped for.
Although he is no longer with us, we will cherish the memories and always remember his generosity, humility, resiliency, patience, determination, great sense of humor, encouragement, and compassion.
We love and honor you...may you rest in peace!
