Amy was born in Pretoria, South Africa to hard working parents who originated from southern China. She was the fifth of seven children. After completing her studies at Damelin College in South Africa in 1959, she explored the world, eventually moving to Seattle to marry Loy Hepp Locke in 1966. Unexpectedly, Loy passed away in 1967. Son Hilton was born in 1968. In 1971 she married Kenneth Yee Chinn, welcomed stepsons Gerald and Gale, and son Douglas was born in 1972.
She enjoyed spending time with family, traveling, gardening, investing and cooking. She was known for cooking for large family gatherings where she made several dishes that were favorites to many. A sampling of her specialties include sweet and sour pork, holiday sugar cookies, fried glutinous rice dumplings, and many kinds of jellos. Her career included a variety of roles at Seattle Tacoma International airport, later as a payroll specialist with Freder-ick & Nelson and then, the parent company of famed Seattle restaurant Salty's on Alki. She also found the energy to invest in a new business partnership, a convenience store located on lower Queen Anne, Mercer Mini Mart which she ran for over forty years.
Amy is survived by her sons Hilton Locke (Mei), Douglas Chinn (Backy), stepsons Gerald Chinn (Suzanne), Gale Chinn. Grandchil-dren Nathaniel, Elizabeth, Cate, Ava, Ethan, and Harper. Siblings Patricia Lailann, Florence Kee, Sonny Qu (Rose), Duggie Qu (Winnie), Kaye Qu (Norma).
