This obituary is created in memory of our loved one, Afifi George Durr.
Afifi lived a good long life of almost 88 years. Born and raised in Lebanon until age 21. From age 21 to 23 Lived and worked in London as a Broadcaster for BBC, where she received a medal from former Queen Elizabeth for saving a life from a house fire. That led to an assignment working with the UN in NY. From there, she went and lived in Washington DC in the early to mid 1960s. She married Lewis Durr (deceased 1996) and lived in Japan for 2 years. She lived and traveled all around Europe and the Far East. After the war in Lebanon started in 1976, Afifi and the family moved to Iran and lived there until 1979. As the war was starting in Iran, the family moved to Seattle, WA.
Afifi continued to enjoy life as an Arabic/English translator (starting her own business) until she retired in 2008. She volunteered at the Arab/American group and continued to stay highly active within the local community (The Story Telling group and Shoreline, WA community). Afifi will be missed by 100s all around the world.
She also had many lived-in foreign exchange students from the Far East, including her daughter-in-law from Mexico. Afifi is survived by William, George, and Charlie Durr. She is also survived by her sister Helen Crofton, and her two brothers George and Adel Abi-Abdullah.
A funeral service for Afifi will be held Tuesday, September 5, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Evergreen Washelli Funeral Home, 11111 Aurora Ave N, Seattle, WA 98133. Following the funeral service will be a committal service at 12:00 PM at Holyrood Cemetery, 205 NE 205th Street, Shoreline, WA 98155.
