Mary Ann Gafford, of Dallas, Texas, was born into eternity on Wednesday, September 7, 2022, in Mesquite, Texas. She was 85 years old at the time of her passing. She will always be remembered as a loving mother, Mimi, faithful spouse, faithful friend, and sister in Christ. To all that knew and loved her, she will be forever etched in their memories. She was born into time on Christmas Day, 1936, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dallas, Texas, to Vernon and Gertie Lee Wilson.
Mary Ann was a graduate of Seagoville High School. After high school, Mr. Birchfield, the father of one of her friends Francis Birchfield, urged her to get a job with the City of Dallas. She followed his advice and served as an Administrative Assistant to the Water Director for over 25 years then retired. She was introduced to the love of her life Lee Roy Gafford by his brother Donald and her friend Sue Rogers, soon to be a Gafford as well. Mary Ann enjoyed cooking for the family whether that was a bunny cake at Easter with the grandchildren, black and white pies for birthdays, pineapple upside-down cakes, lemon jello cakes, or her famous brownies. She enjoyed spending time with family, friends, and her church family.
She enjoyed genealogy research, family history, and chronicling her research for others. She was a past secretary and board member for the Mesquite Genealogical Society. She could be found with her church family at every opportunity.
Mary Ann is survived by her son Roy Gafford and his wife Bonnie of Dallas, Texas, as well as three grandchildren: Caroline Wright and her husband Josh of Abilene, Texas, John Gafford and his wife Madyson of El Dorado, Arkansas, and Marilyn Gafford of Dallas, Texas. She is also survived by one great-grandchild Annie Wright and sisters-in-law Francis Birchfield Gafford and Sue Rogers Gafford. Many cousins, nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends that she loved and loved her as well will hold her in their hearts.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 55 years Lee Roy Gafford, and many other members of her family and loved ones.
The visitation will be held from 6 – 8 p.m. on Friday, September 16th at the Roselawn Funeral Home in Seagoville, Texas. The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 17th at the Crandall church of Christ, in Crandall, Texas. Interment will follow at Judson Cemetery in Cayuga, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Boles Children’s Home in Quinlan, Texas, or to Foster’s Home for Children in Stephenville, Texas.
