John was married the love of his life, Londajean in June of 1956. The couple enjoyed 62 years of marital bliss until her death in 2019. He is also preceded in death by his parents, George Kenneth Whitley and Hattie Minnie Green Whitley, his brother Kenneth Whitley and sisters Katy Goodson and Merle Dunn. He is survived by his son John Douglas Whitley Jr. and wife Donna of Seagoville, Tx., grandson Joshua Whitley and wife Rochelle and daughter Ellie of Springfield Missouri.
John joined the U.S. Army in March of 1953. He was stationed in Alaska and served his country as a ground aircraft observer. He was decorated with the National Defense Service Medal. After separating from the Army, John returned home and went to work for Collins Radio/Rockwell International, retiring in 1989 after 30 years with the company.
John enjoyed camping out, fishing and tinkering in his workshop. He loved to spend time with family and friends. He was loved by all and will be missed immensely.
A visitation for John will be held Thursday, January 28, 2021 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Roselawn Funeral Home, 1000 S Highway 175, Seagoville, TX 75159. A funeral service will occur Friday, January 29, 2021 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, 1000 S Highway 175, Seagoville, TX 75159. A committal service will occur Friday, January 29, 2021 from 11:15 AM to 11:30 AM at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, 1000 S Highway 175, Seagoville, TX 75159. A burial will occur at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, 1000 S Highway 175, Seagoville, Texas 75159.
