She was born on December 5, 1927 in Key West Florida to Elijah and Emma Sands. She was the oldest of her 3 sisters Lou, Margie and Betty.
In June of 1947, while attending a Baptist Church, Irma met a sailor named Hugh Sanders, who was stationed at Key West, Florida. They started dating shortly after that and he became the love of her life.
On October 22, 1947 Hugh was discharged from the Navy and on December 22, 1947, they got married and moved to Thayer, Missouri, where Hugh’s family lived.
In 1948, they moved to Greenville, South Carolina, where Hugh attended Bob Jones University and where their first daughter Becky was born on January 22, 1949.
After Hugh graduated from Bob Jones University in 1952, they moved to Dallas where their second daughter, Jeanne was born on February 22, 1957.
In 1958, they bought a little house in Mesquite, TX where Becky and Jeanne were raised.
Hugh and Irma and their girls attended several different churches where Hugh was either a pastor or a song leader and he and Irma either taught Sunday school or sang in the choir.
After both Becky and Jeanne graduated from High School, got married and had children, Hugh and Irma officially became “Papaw” and “Mamaw”.
In 2014, Hugh and Irma became members of Woodcreek Church, and Irma joined a Ladies Bible Study group with her daughter, Becky.
Irma was preceded in death by her parents Elijah and Emma Sands, sister Betty Jones, and beloved husband Hugh Sanders.
She is survived by daughter Becky Mitchell and her husband Jerry, daughter Jeanne Mitchell and Granddaughter Sarah Croft, Grandson Richard Wyatt, his wife Jennifer and Great Grandson Rhett, Grandson Scott Wyatt, Grandson Darren Mitchell, his wife Kay and Great Grandson Ecco, sister Lou Bardal and her husband Dave and sister Margie Sipes and her husband John.
The Viewing was held on Wednesday afternoon from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Roselawn Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens located at 1000 S Hwy 175, Seagoville, TX 75159. The Graveside service will be held at the same location on Thursday from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM
There will be a Celebration of Life Service for Irma at 1:00 on Thursday, February 29th at Woodcreek Church, 3400 E. Renner Rd., Richardson TX.
