Harold Garland Wheeler was born to Correne Wheeler in St. Louis, Missouri. He spent his childhood in Jackson, Mississippi, where he attended elementary school and Powell Junior High School, playing drums in the school band—a passion he carried with him throughout his youth.
He continued his education at Brinkley High School, where he remained an active member of the band. It was there that he met the love of his life, Josie Harris, a fellow band member who played the clarinet. Their shared love of music sparked a lifelong bond, and both graduated from Brinkley High in 1970.
After attending Jackson State University for a year, Harold and Josie were married on June 6, 1971, beginning a journey of love, partnership, and family.
Their first child, Harold Garland Wheeler II, was born on December 20, 1971. Tragically, he passed away on November 5, 1985, a loss felt deeply by all who knew him. Their second son, Anthony Joseph Wheeler, was born on March 22, 1976.
In 1977, Harold accepted a programming position with EDS, prompting the family's move to Dallas, Texas. There, they continued to grow and thrive, welcoming their daughter, Traci Michelle Wheeler, on August 1, 1980.
Harold built a successful career in information technology, working with companies such as MCSI, Sun Oil Company, Arthur Andersen, and ultimately retiring from IBM in December 2019.
That same year, Harold and Josie relocated to Belton, Texas, where they embraced retirement and became active members of Crossroads Church. Harold enjoyed the peace of Central Texas and the warmth of a close-knit community.
He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Correne, and his eldest son, Harold II.
Harold leaves behind his devoted wife of 53 years, Josie Wheeler; his son, Anthony Wheeler (Melissa); and his daughter, Traci Wheeler. He is also survived by his five loving sisters: Betinna, Darlene, Earnestine, Marian (Keith), and Lynnette; his brother, Anthony Karl; and two cherished granddaughters, Marion and Morgan.
In addition, Harold is remembered fondly by a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws, and friends whose lives were touched by his kindness, wisdom, and quiet strength.
He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
