Gilbert “Gopher” Sanchez Gamez, of Mesquite, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, August 21, 2024 in Dallas, Texas. He will always be remembered as a loving brother, uncle, and friend, to all that knew and loved him. He was born on January 25th, 1958 in Waco, Texas to Maria Sanchez and Jessie Gamez.
Gopher was in the National Guard for several years, he was known as Gopher to most people and also Big Money. He had a passion for Drag Racing and if he wasn’t on the track he was talking crap to his friends about who he was going to beat the next time he went. He enjoyed going to the Casino and also playing cards and dice with his friends. Gopher and his brother Jesse Gamez were the first guys to build a twin turbo blow through carburetor. Gopher had a special love for his niece Priscilla Gamez and his and her dog Elvis, Elvis and Gopher had a very special love for each other.
Gopher is survived by his sisters Eva Gamez , Elisa Gamez, Christine Gamez Castillo, Caroline Gamez Dyer and his brother Jesse Gamez, along with numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Gopher was preceded in death by mother Maria Sanchez and father Jessie Gamez .
The visitation will be held from 1:00PM to 2:00PM on Monday August 26th 2024 at Roselawn Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will be occur 2:00pm to 3:00pm on Monday August 26th 2024 at Roselawn Funeral Home. The burial will occur Monday August 26th from 3:00pm to 4:00pm at Roselawn Funeral Home with a reception to follow at 750 Cedar Elm Trail Forney, Tx 75126.
