William Dan (Danny) Welch passed away on December 15, 2021 in Crandall, Texas. He was born on March 7, 1939, in Dallas, Texas to Barney and Maggie Belle Wherry. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather (DanDan) to his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Danny grew up in Josephine, Texas and at age 15 moved to Seagoville, Texas and graduated from Seagoville High School in 1957. He attended college at HCJC in Athens where he met his bride-to-be, Maxine Lambert. In 1958, he moved to Athens to be produce manager at Safeway Grocery Store. He and Maxine were married August 28, 1959. He also accepted Jesus Christ as his. Lord and Savior and became a Sunday School teacher of Junior High boys at age 20.
Danny, a Vietnam veteran, went into the US Air Force in 1961 and worked on the Titan II Messel program at Davis-Monthan AF Base. He was honorably discharged as an Airman First Class on October 1965. While in the Air Force, he and Maxine had two children, Warren Rhett Welch and Angela Danice Welch.
As a little boy, he worked in his mother's grocery stores in Josephine and Seagoville. They built a new Welch's Grocery in 1965 and owned it until 1972. During that time he was also a real estate broker and worked for Dee Thompson, House of Realty and Century 21 receiving many top selling/listing awards. He was a Councilman and Mayor Protem for the City of Seagoville in the early 70's. In 1973 he began working for a food broker, "fighting for space" in major grocery stores in the DFW area, until he retired in 2006. During this time he received many outstanding sales awards.
In 1973, Danny was ordained a deacon at First Baptist Church, Seagoville. He later served as Chairman of the Deacons and on the building committee at Robinwood Baptist Church. In 2012 he served as a deacon at First Baptist Church, of Mabank, Texas.
Danny is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Maxine Welch of Crandall, Texas. One son Rhett Welch and his wife Shari of Crandall. One daughter Angela Meeks and her husband Denis of Crandall. Five Grandchildren Russell Welch and his wife Malsi of Houston, Texas. Ashley Welch of Grant's Pass, Oregon. Kirby Welch of Crandall, Texas. Ryan Welch and his wife, Amber of Sierra Vista, Arizona, Kaelyn Welch of Crandall, Texas. Six Great grandchildren: Myracle, Leo, Andrea, Rafa, Leigha and Luca. Brother-in-law: Jim Lambert and wife Nancy. Sister-in-law: Susan Lambert Howard and husband Nick. Nephews: Steve (Beth) Stofka, Michael Stofka, Paul (Laura) Fearn, Bill (Nancy) Fearn, Jeff (Julie) Lambert, Chris Howard. Nieces: Melba (Steve) Mott, Alexa Mays.
Danny was preceded in death by his parents, Barney and Maggie Belle Welch and his parents-in-law Garvis and Grace Lambert. Three siblings Melba (Steve) Stofka, Evanelle (Hank) Fearn, and Barney K. (Gertrud) Welch. Nephew Tommy Stofka.
The family had a military inurnment service at DFW National Cemetery on December 28,2021.
Danny's homegoing celebration will be held at 1 pm on Saturday April 2. 2022, at Central Baptist Church, 1759 S FM 148 in Crandall. A reception meal will be served right after the service. Our family requests that you stay so we can visit with you.
