Annie Florence Thompson

Annie Florence Jones Thompson of Balch Springs, Texas, age 92, passed away peacefully on September 27, 2024. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother.

Annie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Rufus Franklin "Jim" Thompson, Jr., as well as her grandparents Andrew and Ellen Jones and William and Florence Hunt, her parents Ivon Bircha Jones and Hattie Blanche Hunt-Jones, and her siblings Leonard "PeeWee" Jones, Birtie O'Dell Jones Splawn, Buford Earl "Dutch" Jones, Leland Harold "Jack" Jones, Martha Edith Jones Baker, Andy Ervin Jones, and her daughter, Sabrina Lynn Thompson.

She is survived by her son, Dennis Thompson; daughters Debbie Thompson Coker and Sandy Thompson; and grandchildren Marissa Mills-Busby, Stephanie Thompson Howard and husband Timothy, Ashley Coker Eads and husband Jerry, Jeremy Coker and wife Cassie, and Nathaniel Thompson and wife Amanda. Her legacy continues through her great-grandchildren Cody Toole, Cade Fite, Cain Fite, Dalton Howard, Logan Coker, Samantha Busby, Levi Eads, Caleb Busby, Ashlyn Eads, Grayson Coker, Derick Thompson, Sophie Thompson, Hayden Coker, and Ella Coker, as well as her great-great-grandchildren Olivia Toole and Lydia Fite.

Born in Rand, Texas, "Sissy" was raised and educated in the Mabank area, where she helped her mother with household duties and her father with farming. On June 30, 1951, she married her beloved Jim of Canton, and together they moved to Dallas to start their life. Annie had a diverse career as a homemaker, beautician, salesperson, and real estate agent. Active members of Prairie Creek Baptist Church, they raised one son and three daughters.

Annie was known for her love of dance, especially ballroom dancing and the “twist.” Her home was a gathering place for neighborhood children, who affectionately referred to it as the “Kool-Aid house.” According to one of her nieces, Annie ensured her family was always meticulously dressed—“magazine ready,” as she said.

Her hobbies included reading, playing the piano, painting, knitting, gardening, cross-stitch, traveling, sewing, and tackling crossword puzzles. Most importantly, she cherished spending time with her family and her husband, Jim. They celebrated over 72 years of marriage until his passing on November 19, 2023. She missed him dearly, and we take comfort in knowing they are reunited in Heaven.

Annie is now welcomed into eternal rest by her husband, parents, and all her siblings.
