Bill was encouraged into the ministry by his grandmother. He entered Northwestern Prep, Watertown, WI for high school, then Northwestern College, and on to Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary, graduating in 1955.
He married Patricia Toay in the summer of 1954. Upon graduating he received his first call to Cibecue, AZ where they served the Apache people until he took a call to Phoenix.
Bill had an active mission life, a full family life, and continued to serve in retirement in Sun City. He is remembered for initiating the organizations: Alpha Pregnancy Resource Center and The Arizona Lutheran Retirement Center as well as starting up Cross of Christ church in Kingman AZ. He caught your attention by starting his devotions and prayers with, “As unaccustomed as I am to public speaking…” and who could forget his Snoopy ties! He loved a good joke, yet never missed an opportunity to tell you how Blessed he was. He always said, “He was drinking from the saucer because his cup overflowed.” He was ever so grateful for Jesus’ gift of salvation, and wanted everyone he encountered to know Jesus as their Savior too.
Colossians 3:17 Whatever you do in word and deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus giving thanks to God the Father through Him.
Bill’s surviving family include Patricia, his wife and 3 children; Timothy Bein, Pauletta Bartley (husband Jay), Loretta Gannon (husband David). Blessings on blessings 5 Grandchildren and 9 Great grandchildren.
