Shirley Iris Katz

Shirley Iris Katz, born on November 10, 1927 in Brooklyn, New York, passed away at age 91 on December 10, 2018 in Phoenix, Arizona. She graduated with honors from Girl's High School in 1944 where she was a member of the Arista National Honor Society, and in a time when women did not usually further their education past high school, she continued by attending City College, graduating with a BA degree in Accounting in 1948. Not one to be daunted by the norm, she took it one step further and graduated with a Master's Degree in 1950 from New York University. She started her career as an Accounting teacher until she was recruited by the US Treasury to become an Internal Revenue Field Agent where she retired in 1994 (If you knew her, you would agree, this was the perfect job for her!). Shirley is survived by her son, Mark Katz; daughter, Beth Katz; and sister, Linda Brandes. She had a passion for glittery manicures, MSNBC, reading the newspaper and TV Guide, knitting with her Knitting Club, theater, Friday afternoon movies at her senior center, dining out (especially Chinese food and Sunday morning breakfasts with her "Breakfast Club" cronies), and, most importantly, chocolate in all shapes and forms. Friends and family are welcome to attend the memorial service, officiated by Rabbi Pinchas Allouche, on Sunday, December 16th from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Green Acres Mortuary & Cemetery, 401 North Hayden Road, Scottsdale, Arizona 85257.
