She was born in Mount Vernon, New York on Christmas day in 1947. Sandy graduated from Calhoun High School in 1965 and received a B.A. in History/Education from Elmira College in 1969.
Sandy married Kenneth Troy Heistand on October 18th, 1975 in Paradise Valley, Arizona, a loving partnership that endured for 47 years.
She worked for American Express for nearly 15 years, but later joined the family business, Brindley’s Music Center. Eventually, she partnered with her brother, Bruce Brindley, to take over the business from their father and mother, Bill and Eileen Brindley, upon their retirement. This career move exemplified the focus and passion of Sandy’s life – family. She dedicated herself to Brindley’s Music, working there until just days before her passing. Her time at Brindley’s allowed her to work with family every day and afforded her the flexibility to be there for her children, her aging parents, and her beloved grandmother, Edna Brindley, whom she called “Nanny.”
She is survived by her husband Ken Heistand, her children Matthew S. Heistand and his wife, Amy, Michael R. Heistand and his wife, Nafessa, and Kimberly H. Kim and her husband, Paul, her beloved grandchildren, who called her “Nanny,” Jean, Nicholas, Dana, Samantha, and Danielle, and her siblings Edna Moore and her husband, Joseph, and their children Catie, Joey, and Lauren, Susie Brindley and her children Christine, Billy, and Heather, Catherine Zolkowski and her daughter Alex, and Bruce Brindley and his wife Doreen and his children Erika and Bruce. She also leaves behind many extended family and friends.
A celebration of Sandy’s life, open to all, will be held at Green Acres Mortuary & Cemetery at 12:00pm on Saturday, April 29th. 401 N. Hayden Road, Scottsdale. AZ 85257
