Laura was a close friend in our sons' grade school years....lots of soccer games, movies (first time viewing "Home Alone") and the fun of attending the Fiesta Bowl with her.    She was a loyal friend, a hard worker and will not be forgotten.

The School of Social Work office had a gem in Laura Orr. As an undergraduate and a graduate alumna, I was the recipient of  many moments of support and guidance  from Laura that helped me to reach my goals and complete my degrees. I am grateful for her presence in the process and for her dedication to the role she played. My sincere condolences to all family members and close friends of this incredible woman.

I will never forget Laura.  She was the first person I met when I toured the ASU social work program when I was deciding on a school for my graduate work.  During my Master's program, I lost my grandfather and a youth I was mentoring to suicide.  I had appointments with Laura on both days and was notified while sitting in the chairs out in front of her office both times.  She was so comforting and understanding.  Rest in peace, Laura.  You were such an asset to the students.  

I am so sorry to have had to miss the memorial service for Laura Orr, I was teaching a new social work class that just started today at the same time of her service (we sent flowers from the MCC Social Work Program, which I hope and trust you received?).~ I have known Laura for almost thirty years through her work as an advisor at the ASU School of Social Work, first personally as my advisor when I was a graduate student there and then as a professional in my role as Director of the Social Work Program at Mesa Community College.  Laura was always so PATIENT and so CARING, toward me as a student and then to my own students!  I appreciated her soft spoken voice of reason and steady guidance that has touched the lives of SO MANY students over these years with her knowledge and encouragement.  When I taught at the ASU SSW I saw the compassion and strength Laura had.  She was an advocate for students struggling with life adversities that could have become a barrier to their success in the program, but not with Laura Orr, she woudl find a way to make it work for them.  Laura truly went "above and beyond" in all she did.~  There is no replacing Laura Orr, she was one of a kind, an icon at the  ASU SSW!  I have missed her these past couple of years and will continue to.  May she rest in peace as a good person  and a life well lived and her family be comforted in knowing her work was a blessing to so many. ~ Kindly, Dori DiPietro

Laura was a constant in my life at ASU.  She was always there to help and guide us through whatever we needed. Laura had a kind and loving soul. She will be missed. My condolences to her family.

Rest in peace, Laura.  You worked so hard to make sure all of our students, faculty, and staff were well taken care of.  We will miss your dry sense of humor and wit.  You loved your Dallas Cowboys, I hope you bring them some good luck from above, they can surely use it and my husband and sons would be forever grateful. :)  Thank you for all your years of service and dedication to the ASU School of Social Work.

Laura was an amazing woman. She was central to the way the School of Social Work functioned. Her commitment to excellence was impressive.  Laura conveyed the utmost respect to our students. She was a strong student advocate. She worked effectively with faculty. Laura was excellent at her job. It is not an understatement to say, no person will ever be able to replace her. Many students and faculty have benefitted from her assistance. 

Moreover, Laura was always friendly and a joy to work with. In what can sometimes be a difficult job she always brought the best light to any situation. I have worked for the school for over 30 years and Laura will be sorely missed. I am sad that she could not experience a proper retirement and see the support and love that so many people would have shared.  She was an important part of my life and I am grateful I had an opportunity to work and grow up with her over these years.

Laura was a wonderful person who pursued every avenue possible to help our Tucson SSW students.  She cared so deeply and wanted students to succeed so much; she worked very hard to make it possible for our students to achieve their dreams.  Thank you, Laura, for everything.  We miss you and will never forget you.

Laura was my supervisor at ASU many years ago. She was kind, caring and extremely dedicated to the students at the School of Social Work.  I know she made a difference in many student’s lives.  She will be missed. Rest In Peace Laura. 

I have not seen Laura for years, but who could ever forget her.  I am very sad to hear of her passing.  When I started back to school to get my BSW, she was the first person at the ASU School of Social Work that I remember meeting and she changed my school life.  She was so skillful at helping students gain confidence and manage their schedules.  She was always supportive and positive.  I imagine she did this for countless students and helped launch so many social work careers!  Thank you Laura.

I have been both a student and adjunct faculty member in the ASU School of Social Work and I cannot say strongly enough how kind, caring and patient Laura always was to answer every question or say I will find out. She will be deeply missed. 

Remembering Laura Orr with love. Laura was my MSW Academic Advisor, ASU colleague, and dear friend. She touched the lives and helped launch the careers of social workers across Arizona and beyond. She was the one constant through faculty and administrative changes from the 1970s through the 2010s. Laura, you made a difference!

I can not remember a time when Laura was not an integral part of the student experience at the ASU School of Social Work. Laura knew everyone, everything and was endlessly patient and helpful. In my family, Laura was a two generation student support icon - for both myself and my daughter. How many times did I hear the words, 'Ask Laura, she will know"...  and that was the truth.  In a department with ever changing leadership and faculty, Laura was a calm, no nonsense icon of stability and knowledge.
