I am so sad to hear of the passing of my Aunt Kay...she was such a positive, intelligent life force and a great comfort to me when my own mother passed.  The world is a darker place without her here....she will be greatly missed...

Kay Lutman was a dear friend and reminded me very much of my own mother who passed in 2004.  I enjoyed serving on the Board of Deacons at Mesa First Presbyterian Church and also being her befriender during the past several year. When I visited her we would have wonderful conversations and I always left her housing feeling so uplifted.  

While I was visiting her in the hospital I leaned over to say something to Kay and she beat me to it.  Her comment was "We have to stop meeting like this."  So funny as I was just about to say the same thing.  That was our little joke.

Kay you will be missed by many and I have been so blessed to have you in my life.  I love you.  Jeanne

During the final week of Mom's life, she was both as strong and resolute, and as trusting and loving as I have ever seen her.  

As the hours and days went by in Hospice, it was very obvious that she trusted God's will profoundly.  She deeply appreciated having her hand held, her forehead and hair stroked and to hear familiar voices, especially the prayers with and for her.  Her grip was strong and her heart and spirit were reconciled.  She never complained, even once, during the entire week.  

Although the staff treated her well, I'm sure the indignities and discomforts were very difficult.  Through it all though, she was focused and accepting.  As I mentioned in my email that included photos of her, she even smiled as she was born into the next world!  

Mom, I hope and I pray that we all can live and pass half as well.  That all of us can be as reconciled and accepting, and have as happy a death as you have.  I love you and miss you Mom!  Thank You!

Kay Lutman was more than a cousin to me.  She was a mother and friend.  I lived with Kay and Walter while I was student teaching in Lincoln, Nebraska in 1970.  We developed a close relationship while I was growing up on the farm, and I would come to stay with my grandmother in Lincoln.  I would walk to the Lutmans to be around my fun and interesting male cousins.  Kay and Walter liked having a girl in the family.  On Friday nights Walter would bring home a half baked pizza from Valentinos.  On Saturdays we all pitched in to do household chores. In addition, Kay would often discuss her work experiences. But mostly we found time to laugh and share our joys together. They both made me feel loved and valued.  Though the years have passed, I stayed in touch.  She and Walter would be very happy that Kay's funeral has brought their three sons and myself together.  I have no doubt that Kay has joined Walter in Heaven.  For Kay was one of the most accepting, intelligent, loving, kind, and gentle women I have ever known.  Her memories will continue to live forever in my heart.  Thank you Kay.
