October 4,2024 ended on a very sad note when Jean Glover passed. She was 101 years old and approaching her next birthday. What a life she lived!
Although she came from simple beginnings, she had the tenacity, work ethic and courage to take on all challenges. A friend asked her to go to Goodyear Aircraft to apply for a job. Jean wasn’t interested in a job, but she would ride along. There was a very long line but while she was standing by her friend she was selected. Goodyear built blimps and cartoon characters for the Macy Thanksgiving Parade. It wasn’t long until she was reading blueprints, making friends and shouting orders. Jean worked there for several years until she decided she wanted to do something else. While working at Goodyear she and her husband were buying houses and flipping them. Each house was a step up from the other.
Next came the purchase of a small motel with land behind it. She wanted to build a mobile home park. Although Floyd was working at APS, between the two of them they did a lot of the planning and building. Side by side they did it together. They bought two larger mobile home parks. Jean was always looking to improve their lives.
When holidays came around the dinner tables were full of people that were winter visitors or had no families. There were feasts of food made by all the contributors. Jean was a fantastic cook. Losing her mother and stepmother at an early age,she longed for the family connections. She took elderly people under her wing, helping them any way she could.
When Floyd retired, they began to enjoy life. Jean loved the high style and fashion of dressing up. They traveled the world. As part of the Ladies Shrine, she catered parties, organized, delegated and decorated for occasions. She loved the sisterhood.
If Jean had a bucket list. I think she completed it with one exception…She wanted to live in California. I hope she does a flyby. She will be greatly missed by her family!
A celebration of life for Jean will be held Saturday, November 2, 2024 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at El Zaribah Shrine, 552 N 40th Street, Phoenix, AZ 85008.
