Born June 26th, 1929, Jean Alys Bailey passed away at the age of 88 on March 25th, 2018. Her life was so much more than the ravages of Alzheimers that eventually took her from the family and friends that loved her. Her childhood was spent with her sister Betty shuttling between summers in Alaska and school years spent at Annie Wright Seminary in the lower 48. She attended and graduated from Whitman College where she met her future husband, John H.Bailey. Marriage eventually took them and their newborn Carol back to Anchorage, Alaska to start their new lives. Births of Mary Ann and James quickly followed. Eventually the family moved to Phoenix, Arizona, with Nancy arriving in 1962 to complete the family of six. Jean was a teacher in the Scottsdale school district for many years, teaching grades 4 through 9. During this time she attended ASU, completing her MBA. The great joys of her life included her grandchildren Evan, Andrew and Kevin, European travels with her husband Jack, and frequent trips to the northwest coast to visit her sister and relax on the beaches of Seaside, Oregon. She prided herself in being politically astute and well read. A voracious reader, nothing pleased her more than exchanging books with her dear friend Carolyn. She thoroughly enjoyed her volunteer work at "Sun Sounds" where she read for the blind. She will be missed by all family and friends alike. She is survived by her children, Carol, Mary Ann, Jim and Nancy, and grandchildren Evan, Andrew and Kevin. Family requests donations in Jean's honor to be made to Alzheimer's Association, https://www.alz.org.
