Dr. George Marion Greene, 84 of Tempe, Arizona, passed away on May 21, 2013. Dr. George M. Greene was born on April 22, 1929 in Columbia, South Carolina to the late Ben and Jessie Greene. His educational background includes a B.S. Degree from Tuskegee University; Master of Education and Education Specialist Degrees from Arizona State University; and the Doctor of Education Degree from Northern Arizona University. Dr. Greene also served in the United States Navy. He moved to Phoenix, Arizona in 1956 and taught at Percy L. Julian Elementary School for eight years and was subsequently assigned as Assistant Principal at Martin Luther King, Jr., Elementary School. Dr. Greene served for 35 years in the field of education and retired as Associate Superintendent for Curriculum in the Roosevelt Elementary School District in 1988.
An active member of the Phoenix community, Dr. Greene served in numerous educational, religious, civic and fraternal organizations. He was a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.; Phi Delta Kappa; Phoenix Chapter of the March of Dimes ; Elder for Southminister Presbyterian Church; and a member and Elder for Valley Presbyterian Church.
Dr. Greene is survived by his wife of 59 years, Corenthel; daughter, Elaine Hall (Levi) of Columbia, S.C.; son, George T. Greene (Shawna) of Portland, Oregon; sister Naomi Brown (Clyde); brothers, Johnny (Ophelia), and Hayward (Dr. Gwenda), all of Columbia, South Columbia; five grandchildren: Mark and Xavier Hall (Columbia, S.C.); Danielle Greene Mudd (Corey) of Miyazaki, Japan; De'Nia, George T.II, and great-grandson Marcus Anderson Greene (Portland, Oregon).
