On March 4, 2019 Dorothy Lee (Martineau) Anderson passed peacefully in her sleep in her hometown of Mesa, Az. Dorothy was born on May 24th 1930 in Bisbee, Az. She is survived by her three children: Sharon, Rachelle (Jon) and Kevin (Heidi) and 12 grandchildren: Brandon, Chad, Carey, Corie, Dana, Candyce, Jordan, Tyler, Haleigh, Sara, Kyle and Eon, along with 16 great grandchildren. Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband Orville, her parents Ernest and Stella and her 6 siblings Flora Mae, Ernest Lynn, Verl A., Darwin J., Carla Rae, and Lillian.
Dorothy grew up in the town of St. David on her family's dairy farm and attended Tombstone High School. The family moved to Mesa, Arizona in 1947 where she attended and graduated from Mesa High School in 1948. She attended cosmetology school after graduation and later attended Lamson College and earned a degree as a Legal Secretary. She married Orville Anderson on June 10th 1949 and supported him in his farming/harvesting business, until he became sick and continued as his full time caregiver until he passed from Parkinson's in 1989.
Dorothy was a true entrepreneur of her time and had multiple businesses including real estate, furniture stores and cleaning. Her passions included included camping with the Foresters Club, painting, dancing, family reunions, genealogy and spending time in her second home in Prescott, Az. She also loved to travel the world visiting 5 continents, went on numerous cruises and sharing experiences with family members. From the Great Wall of China, to indigenous tribes in Africa, to the Eiffel Tower and the glaciers of Alaska, she truly loved an adventure. But her favorite place in all the world were the islands of Hawaii.
Dorothy will always be known by all those she touched for her stories, her hard work ethic, her advice (whether you wanted it or not), and her willingness to help all those that needed it. Dorothy's service will be held on Tuesday, March 12th, 2019 at 10 AM at Green Acres Mortuary and Cemetery. 401 North Hayden Road Scottsdale, Arizona 85257.
