David M. Wood, the only child of Bob and Bertha Wood of Bedford, Iowa was born on November 12, 1937. David passed away July 6, 2016 at the age of 78 after a gallant battle with colon cancer. Dave came to Arizona directly after graduating from high school to pursue his passion in developing cities. Over Dave's career he designed subdivisions, built houses and was general manager of a number of local civil engineering and home building companies. Dave loved boating, water skiing, snow skiing and motorcycle riding. He enjoyed these outings with all his family members and friends and was very interested in teaching others how to enjoy them too. He always said he found peace and faith in God's work in nature. Dave felt closest to God and his faith as he was surrounded by the beauty and peaceful waters of the outdoors. He is survived by his loving wife, Pamela, of 41 years, son Mark and his 3 children, Chris, Julie and Valorie; daughter Wendy Owens (Jeff) and their 2 children, Will and Ali all living in Arizona. Brother-in-law Doug Wattier, and children Ric (Maggie), Michael, Dennis (Darla), Kathy Cassaro, Tim (Jen), Chris (Jen); Brother-in-law Jerry Hake and children Nan (Dean), Marc (Yvette), Trina (Carl), Paula. Also 9 great nephews and 5 great nieces. Dave was very civic minded and involved in many organizations: Scottsdale Planning Commission for 10 years, Scottsdale Design Review Board for 7 years, McCormick POA Board of Directors for 10 years where he served as Secretary, Treasurer, Vice-President and President and served as chairman of the Architectural Control Committee, and was currently serving as President of his El Paseo neighborhood's HOA Board of Directors for the past 15 years. Dave also was an instructor at the Arizona School of Real Estate for 15 years teaching planning and zoning, land development principles and legal description. Dave was a licensed pilot, licensed contractor and real estate broker. He retired in 1999 for one month but missed the activity and people contact so started his own consulting business "Planning & Development Consulting". He provided land development and zoning consulting to builders, developers, real estate brokers and land owners in site due diligence, site planning, zoning and entitlement, project and construction management. It is always what he wanted to do and felt it was a perfect match for him. Dave served his country for 6 years in the Air National Guard. He was activated and deployed to Germany for one year during the Berlin Crisis. He was an air craft mechanic for a squadron of F-104 Star fighters and felt it was the greatest all-expense paid vacation anyone could ask for. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am on July 15, 2016 at Bethany Lutheran Church, 4300 N. 82nd Street, Scottsdale, AZ. Dave's family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude to the staff of Hospice of the Valley, and donations may be made in his name to their organization.
