Jerry was born on May 1, 1942 in Alliance, NE to Elmer and Inez (Dempsey) Woods, and was the youngest of 9 children (Elmer, Richard, Betty, infant brother, Margaret, Leota, Walter and Jack).
He attended school in Alliance and then after doing the School of Hard Knocks, he got his GED.
In 1966, he married Terri Freeman and they had a daughter, Roxanne in 1967. They divorced 2 months after her birth.
In 1970, Jerry married Sharon Hooper. Robert Hicks joined the family in 1972 and then William Patrick was born in 1973.
Jerry worked various jobs, owning his own lawn service and then went to work for Cover Jones where he learned body repair. He and Bert Bullock opened West Fourth Street Body Shop then Jerry bought the business from Bert.
In 1979, he started working for Electric Hose & Rubber, through Dayco & then Parker.
Jerry and Sharon were foster parents for several years and were named Foster Parents of the Year for Box Butte County in 1992.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son Willy, all of his siblings, many nieces and nephews as well as in-laws.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Sharon of the home; Roxanne Smith, Robert Hicks, grandsons, Eric Woods, Steven Kauffman, David Hicks, Dustin Hicks and granddaughters, Megan McCann, Shellie Kauffman, Katie Camp, Mackinley Woods and Danielle Cole.
He also leaves behind brother and sister-in-law, Dan and Tara Hooper, sister-in-law, Theresa Woods, various nieces and nephews and great grandsons and granddaughters as well as other extended family.
