Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, May 19, 2014, at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Mitchell with Father Thomas Gudipalli officiating. Interment will follow in the Mitchell City Cemetery at Mitchell.
A vigil service will be held at 6:00 p.m., Sunday, at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel in Scottsbluff. Friends may visit from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Sunday, at the funeral home. Tributes of sympathy may be left at www.dugankramer.com
David was born April 27th, 1958, at Scottsbluff, NE, to Margarito H. Martinez and Marian (Trujillo) Martinez. He received his education at Mitchell Public Schools. He continued his education as an electrician with Dyna-Tec Electric out of Gering, NE. He spent 25 years with Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad ending his career as a System Electrical Foreman. He was an avid boxer in his early years. He fought for the Gering Eagle Boxing Club. He was a Golden Glove Champion for the State of Nebraska and competed in Hawaii for the National Championship. Later on David boxed and helped coach the Victory Hill Boxing Club. He loved spending time with his family and friends. Enjoyed Keno, the outdoors including fishing and working in his yard, and was an avid coin collector.
He is survived by his son Christopher M. Martinez (Scott) of Kansas City, MO; daughter Amber (Josh) Gomez of Gering, NE and grandson Camden Christopher Gomez; sister Theresa Lopez of Scottsbluff, NE; sister Gloria Valdez of Westminister, CO; brother Jesse( Karen) Martinez of Littleton, CO; brother Lupe Martinez of Aurora, CO; sister Carmen (Tom) Cisneros of Westminister, CO; sister Esperansa Fe Valdez of Denver, CO; brother Fred Martinez of Denver, CO; brother Eli (Shelia) Martinez of Minatare, NE; brother Steven (Lori) Martinez of Scottsbluff; many nieces and nephew and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Margarito Jr., and sister Barbara Jean.
