Roy W. Forsberg – 84, longtime resident of Scituate passed away unexpectedly on the morning of March 17, 2022. He was the beloved husband of Patricia (Keegan) Forsberg, with whom he was high school sweethearts and shared nearly 63 years of marriage.
Born in Boston, he was raised in the Savin Hill neighborhood of Dorchester and was a graduate of Cathedral High School and went on to earn his Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the US Naval Academy. He went on to proudly serve his country as an officer in the US Navy, stationed predominantly in Winter Harbor, ME.
Following his time in the Navy, he and Patricia lived in Southington, CT and moved to Scituate in 1969, where they raised their family. Roy was employed for many years at Reed Elsevier Publishing, working his way up from Editor to Vice President and Publisher. He took a great deal of pride in his work, namely his role in building Electronics Design News (EDN), an electronics industry magazine and also Test and Measurement World magazine.
“Commodore,” as his family and close friends knew him, was an avid sailor and was happiest aboard his 30-foot sailboat, Winters Dream. He shared this passion with his grandchildren, with whom he adored spending time. He was a talented cook and often put his skills in the kitchen to good use for Sunday family dinners and for the past several decades, lovingly prepared all of the meals for he and his wife. Roy was a voracious reader and would often read into the late hours of the evening.
He was the devoted father of Roy W. Forsberg, Jr. and his wife Suzanne of Norway, ME, Mark E. Forsberg and his wife Tammy of Plymouth and Cathleen A. Lacy and her husband William of Plymouth. Cherished Papa of Meghan(Peter,) Kristin, Samantha, Joel, Garrett (Elizabeth,) Caroline, Cameron, Joseph and Brian; and his great grandchildren Skylar and Easton.
Loving brother of Helen Federowski and her husband Frank of Bridgton, ME, Christine McDermott and her late husband John of Dorchester and the late Sonja Connelly. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will take place on Tuesday, March 22, 2022 from 3-7 PM at Richardson-Gaffey Funeral Home, 382 First Parish Road, Scituate. Funeral Mass on Wednesday, March 23, 2022 at 10 AM at St. Mary of the Nativity Church, 1 Kent Street, Scituate. Interment to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
