ARCHIBALD, Nancy Adele (Nilson) – Of Hingham, formerly of Scituate and Milton, passed away peacefully on the morning on July 21, 2017. She was the beloved wife of nearly 50 years to the late Robert E. Archibald, who predeceased her in 2001.
Born in Quincy, MA and raised in Milton, she was the daughter of the late A. Paul Nilson and Mildred Hicks Nilson.
She was a graduate of Milton High School Class of 1947 and earned her bachelor’s degree from Colby College in 1951 and was a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority. She was employed for many years as a legal secretary.
Nancy was an active member of the United Church of Christ in Norwell. She was the Treasurer of the Taurine Bibliophiles of America, which was founded by her late husband. Her generous and kind nature led her to be an active volunteer throughout her life, namely at the Norwell Food Pantry and the Scituate Etrusco. She had a lifelong passion for learning, always challenging herself, by taking courses and in practicing cultural awareness. Nancy could actively take part in conversations on nearly any topic presented to her.
She was caring and loyal in her personal relationships and was an example of grace and poise, even while in the care of the hospital in her last days. Above all else, she will be remembered and adored for the unconditional love she gave to her family.
She was the devoted mother of Marylee Muise and her late husband David of Halifax, Melissa A. White and her husband Stephen of Norwell and Suzanne Archibald and her husband Jim Ammirato of Newton.
Cherished Nanna of Bryan Paul Muise and his wife Shelly, Alexander James White, Kyle Christopher White and James Theo Ammirato. Proud great grandmother to Charlie Ann Muise and Shea Taylor Millman.
She was the loving companion to Bob Wittenauer of Hingham.
She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
Visiting hours Friday, July 28, 2017 from 4 to 8 PM at Richardson –Gaffey Funeral Home, 382 First Parish Road, SCITUATE. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Memorial celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, July 29, 2017 at 11 AM at the United Church of Christ, 460 Main Street, Norwell. Interment to take place privately. A memorial service will take place at Linden Ponds at a future date.
