Michael Clayton McCusker - Age 39 of Allston, MA and later Scituate, MA. Beloved son of Thomas Michael McCusker and Joyce Gail (Fargo) McCusker. He will be dearly missed by his children Myles Clayton McCusker (14), Maxwell James McCusker (13) and his former spouse Meaghan (Brazell) McCusker. Cherished brother of Kate (McCusker) McShea, her wife Sarah (Shea) McShea, Lindsey McCusker, and her fiance Mark Henderson. Loving uncle to Rowan and Torryn McShea and Nathan McCusker. Michael will be lovingly remembered by his many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Michael attended school at the Saint Anthony School in Allston, then Boston Latin School where he transferred to the Boston Arts Academy and was a member of their first graduating class in 2001. He went on to study at Berklee College of Music with two full scholarships. He also took many classes at UMass Boston.
Michael had many interests and hobbies including hockey, basketball, baseball, and performing in the local Parish Minstrel Show in his youth. He was a trained and licensed skydiver, long distance runner, roller blader, and a self-taught creative chef. Michael enjoyed deep intellectual conversations and debate; he was a lifelong questioner and learner, with an interest in philosophy and psychology. He loved performing, writing and recording music, writing lyrics and poetry - an overall love for art in all mediums and forms. He was a mentor and made people feel included. Michael loved being a dad.
Michael had a passion for music. He was self-driven to learn the guitar and years later many more instruments, truly a natural musician. Michael started and performed in several bands across different genres of music. His dedication to music gave him the opportunity and honor to perform with Walter Beasley, Wynton Marsalis, and Tito Puente. He wrote and recorded three albums, along with countless singles and covers, and crafted his own beautiful and easily recognizable sound, an accomplishment highly celebrated amongst aspiring and professional musicians around the world. Michael created and produced his own podcast. He played music for various church groups and ran and played "KidPower Music" sing-along at the Scituate library for several years as well as taught music lessons for eager beginners and players. Michael created Fireshed Studios, his own recording studio at home, which he was very proud of.
Over the last few years, Michael enjoyed being his own boss, moving around the city as a driver/courier, most recently with Postmates and Doordash. He was even in the process of creating his own company, Driven, within this field with the goal to make the process more equitable for the drivers. He had the freedom to make his own schedule, so he could spend as much time with his boys as he could. Though he struggled with planning activities, he always made the commitment to put as much time, money, and most importantly, energy into being with his children. His boys meant everything to him and they are his greatest accomplishment. Myles and Max are the greatest gifts he could have ever given his family.
A wake will be held on Saturday July 23, 2022 from 10:00 am -1:15 pm at Richardson-Gaffey Funeral Home, 382 First Parish Road in Scituate, followed by a Celebration of Life service at 1:15pm in the Funeral Home Chapel. Private interment will occur at a later date.
