Janet Claire Litz, longtime resident of Scituate passed away peacefully on the evening of May 18, 2022. She was the beloved wife of the late John Litz, Jr. with whom she shared 43 years of marriage before his passing in 2004. She was 81.
Born in Boston, she was the daughter of the late John and Catherine (Byron) Lonergan. She was a graduate of Archbishop Williams High School Class of 1957, and earned her degree from the Catherine Labouré School of Nursing in 1961. She worked for many years as a pharmacy technician before her retirement.
Janet was known for 60 years as the “Surgeon General” of the Garden Road neighborhood, where she and John raised their family. She enjoyed cookouts, game shows, crossword puzzles, watching her red Sox and Patriots and her Klondike bars.
Nanny was always her happiest when with her family, who loved her more than anything. They will miss her infectious smile and belly laugh, but feel comforted knowing that she has reunited with her beloved husband John and they are now resting in peace together.
She was the devoted mother of Karen Gallagher of Scituate; and Donna Litz and her partner Paula Gately of Scituate and Mission Hill. Cherished grandmother of Megan Tyson and her husband Ronald of Winter Garden, FL. Honorary grandmother of Jimmy Gately.
Loving sister of Jack Lonergan and his wife Pam of Seattle, WA.
Sister in law of Janet Litz of Scituate and the late Gene Litz. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and her dear friends Jimmy and Mary Chiavelli, with whom she shared a very special, lasting friendship.
Visitation will take place on Wednesday, May 25, 2022 from 8:30-9:30 AM at Richardson-Gaffey Funeral Home, 382 First Parish Road, Scituate followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM at St Mary of the Nativity Church, 1 Kent Street, Scituate. She will be laid to rest beside her husband in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
