Doretta grew up in South Boston and graduated from South Boston High School in 1950. Doretta married George Stetson Martin and raised a family in Dorchester. In 1970, they moved to Scituate.
Doretta was a loving, caring, strong, hard-working, faith filled woman. In addition to raising 6 children, Doretta also worked a variety of jobs but her most favorite position was that of Director of Religious Education for St. Frances X. Cabrini Church in Scituate. In her time off, Doretta enjoyed wearing her apron and pothering around her house and yard; and spent many years summering in Bridgton, Maine.
Doretta is pre-deceased by her husband, George Stetson Martin and her daughter, Deborah Place and 4 siblings, Martha Henry, Thomas Taylor, Mark Taylor, and Colleen Hammerquist.
Doretta will be dearly missed by daughter, Cheryl and husband, Mark Gymiski, of Brockton, daughter, Susan and husband Aggie Aguilar of Hull, daughter, Maureen, and her husband, Kenneth Crowell, of Scituate, son, George Martin and his wife Florentina, of Ensenada, Mexico and son, Christopher Martin, of Cohasset.
Survived by sisters Roberta Banks and Maureen Giallombardo, brother Michael Taylor and his wife, Janet, and sister-in-law, Marie Taylor. Doretta was blessed with 19 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Please join us in remembering Doretta at the wake on Friday, 11/17 from 4 – 8 PM at the Richardson-Gaffey Funeral Home, Scituate, MA.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Anthony Roman Catholic Church, Cohasset, on Saturday, 11/18 at 11:00 am. Burial is private. Reception to follow at the Parish Hall.
